Residents commenting Thursday, Feb. 24 to the Borough Assembly strongly supported the new Air Quality Zone ordinance proposed by members Diane Hutchison, Nadine Winters, and Joseph Blanchard II.
Ten residents spoke in favor of the proposed Air Quality Zones ordinance (2011-12).
While strongly favoring the proposed ordinance, the testifiers also opposed amending current code 8.21 PM 2.5 Air Quality Control Program to exempt Interior/Healy coal from the prohibited fuels list if that fuel is not recommended by the manufacturer of the stove. We need our Borough to protect our most vulnerable residents from air pollution caused by misuse, not to perpetuate misuse and incur a liability for the public.
The Air Quality Zone ordinance will be considered by the Air Pollution Control Commission on March 15 and public testimony will be heard. Following that, the proposal will likely advance to the Assembly’s Committee of the Whole on March 17 where no public testimony is taken. Then the ordinance may go to the Assembly for public hearing on March 24.
