Air Pollution Control Commission Hearing
Monday, December 27, 2010, 6:30 PM
Pioneer Park Civic Center (Main Hall), Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts, 2300 Airport Road, Fairbanks, AK 99701
This is the first hearing since the December 8 meeting of the APCC. At that meeting the APCC rejected the Mayor’s new draft ordinance, sending it back to Mayor Luke Hopkins for strengthening. It is important that those who support clean air attend and testify in favor of a strong clean air ordinance. Please submit written comments whether or not you can attend (see contact info below).
Public comment will be taken at the beginning of the meeting on “items not on the agenda” (3 min limit). Later in the meeting, public comments (3 min limit) will be heard on Mayor Luke Hopkin’s “proposed Code Amendments as a result of Proposition A and to address some changes to the definition and exclusion of pellet burning hydronic heaters or furnaces.” The APCC will vote on recommendations to forward to Mayor Hopkins for later consideration by the Assembly. Majority approval of the FNSB Assembly is required to accept or amend any new local ordinance.
For background: read Residents Stop Freight Train on the Dec. 8 APCC hearing. Also review the Mayor’s draft proposed code amendments (proposed 12/9/2010) to the current local Air Quality Ordinance 2010-28 (approved 6/10/2010). The latest draft ordinance that has been made available is the Mayor’s 12/9/2010 version.
