Did you get your postcard yet? The North Star Landowners mailed a bunch this week urging “yes” votes on Proposition A. This is the same group that wrote Prop A and gathered signatures to put it on the ballot. The reasons given on the postcard are the same ones they used to get signatures:
- Vote Yes for a Local Air Quality Plan
- Vote Yes for a pro-active approach toward affordable energy
The North Star Landowners are either very confused or trying to confuse you. Voting “yes” eliminates the very tools the Borough needs for effective local air pollution control.
How “pro-active” is throwing old tires and plywood into your outdoor boiler and making your neighbors pay for your cheap heat with their health and depreciated property values? How “pro-active” is burning cord after cord of unseasoned, wet wood while your neighborhood is “entombed in a shroud of pollution”? (USA Today, 1/14/2010). If Prop A passes, Borough ordinance may allow anything and everything to be burned, any “gaseous, non-gaseous, liquid, or non-liquid fuels” (Prop A).
