To the editor:
I talk to and meet new people all the time and have even met people in the Wasilla area who moved because of air quality. This will have an effect community-wide and already has. The decision by proprietors and homeowners to install wood and coal boilers and the borough’s shortsightedness with regard to air quality issues will have a long-term effect on more than school enrollment.
Added to the insult and injury, in cases where they use wood boilers without expensive controls, proper piping and glycol it actually will increase cost overall and/or consumption of wood. I have seen it, and often the proof is hidden in utility bills.
I work in the energy field, and I urge people to not rely on what a salesperson or contractor tells you; always educate yourself before making a decision and get at least a second opinion. Your decision might affect all of us.
